St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, January 21, 2011, at Parks Baptist Church, 5140 Main Hwy. (Hwy. 31), St. Martinville, LA, 70582, for Murrell Thomas Smith, Sr., 74, who was called home by our Lord on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at his residence. Interment will follow at Methodist Cemetery in St. Martinville. Brother Rob will officiate at the funeral service. Mr. Smith was a Mason for over 40 years and was a member of the Parks Baptist Church. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening in his free time. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce J. Smith of St. Martinville; two sons, Murrell 'Tommy' Smith, Jr. and his wife, Alice, of Broussard, and John Edward Smith and his wife, Christine, of Catahoula; six grandchildren, Brandy Wassmer, Candy Smith, Murrell 'Trey' Smith, III, Mark A. Smith, Matthew A. Smith, and Jackie Moseley; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Mark A. Smith and Kenneth D. Smith; his parents, Oscar J. and Martha Morris Smith; six brothers and two sisters. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 12 Noon until 10 p.m. on Thursday and continue on Friday 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville. Visitation will resume at Parks Baptist Church from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Pallbearers will be Murrell 'Trey' Smith, III, Mark A. Smith, Sean Moseley, Peter Wassmer, Dickie Touchet, and Daryll Moore.
