New Iberia A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Nelson Paul Decoux, Sr., 80, who died Monday, October 27, 2014, in Youngsville.
Interment will follow in St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery, in Abbeville.
Rev. Mark Derise will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Wednesday. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
A resident of Youngsville since 1999, Mr. Decoux was born on January 21, 1934 in Erath to Cyriac and Laura Menard Decoux. He worked for the Iberia Parish Hospital, and then worked as a self-employed painting contractor for over 40 years. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Decoux worked in maintenance at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. His hobbies included dancing, fishing, going to the casino, repairing lawnmowers, working in his yard, making everyone laugh, and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Decoux was loved by everyone.
Survivors include seven sons, Bradley Decoux and wife Judy of Youngsville, Stafford Decoux and wife Peggy of New Iberia, Timmy Decoux of Youngsville, Russell Decoux of Abbeville, Nelson Jr. Decoux, Jr. and companion Randale of Lafayette, Michael Decoux and wife Julie of Loreauville, Nathan Romero and companion Lisa of Lafayette; five daughters, Sandra Dartez and companion Walter Reed Freeman of Youngsville, Roxanne Hebert and husband David of New Iberia, Lisa Albert and husband Donald of Loreauville, Leslie Amy and husband Mark of New Iberia, Melissa Freese and husband Tyson of Corpus Christi, Texas; brothers, Eugene Decoux and wife Grace of Coteau, Lawrence Decoux of Erath; sister, Anita Viator and husband Louis of Delcambre; 22 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren; Laurie Romero who he looked at as a daughter; and two special ladies in his life, Amy Romero and Marie Jeffcoat.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Marie Touchet Decoux; son, Christopher Romero; grandchildren, Nicole Decoux and Stafford Decoux, Jr.; great grandchild, Zachary Decoux; son-in-law, Wayne Dartez; daughters-in-law, Phyllis Decoux and Ruby Decoux; and several brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be his seven sons, and honorary pallbearers will include his sons-in-law.
