Arnaudville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville, for Nolan Wayne Pitre, 61, who passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at his residence after a short battle with cancer surrounded by his family. Reverend Austin Leger will officiate at the funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Dr. Rachel Olivier and Tricia Olivier. Gift Bearers will be Allison, Camille and Hannah Olivier, Ava Rae Pitre, and Aysia Richard. Music will be provided by Valerie Andrus. Entombment will follow at St. John Francis Regis Mausoleum. Mr. Pitre had recently retired with the Town of Arnaudville s utility department after 14 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, he was a former member of the Courtableau Wildlife Hunting Club. Wayne loved family gatherings and also enjoyed going to the horse races with family and friends. His deep and affectionate love for his wife, children, and grandchildren was immeasurable. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Regina Taylor Pitre of Arnaudville; his son, Lance Pitre and his wife, Nicole, of Abbeville; his daughter, Michon Pitre of Arnaudville; two brothers, Ray Pitre and his wife, Geneva, of Opelousas, and Norris Pitre of Washington; one granddaughter, Ava Rae Pitre of Abbeville; and a step granddaughter, Aysia Richard of Abbeville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nolan and Loicy Mae Duplechain Pitre; his sister, Linda Pitre; and his godchild, Craig Pitre. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Tuesday and continue on Wednesday at 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A rosary will be recited by Rev. Austin Leger at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Louis Olivier, J. B. LaGrange, Chester Dalfrey, Ryan Olivier, Curtis Janice, and John Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Van Christian, Dr. Michael Basile, Darrell Smith, and Leroy Laporte. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Alan Sonsky, Dr. James Cole, Dr. Kirk Elliott, Hospice of Acadiana, especially his nurse, Beth, and Joseph and John Darby and family, for their special care, and everyone who had Wayne in their prayers. We would especially like to thank our family for their love, compassion, prayers, and support in our time of need.
