New Iberia – Arrangements are pending for Olga “Sis” Theresa Romero Champagne, 88, who passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

Olga “Sis” Theresa Romero Champagne was born in New Iberia on November 22, 1937, to the late Adam A. and Gladys Toucheque Romero. She had a deep love for dancing, often lighting up any room she entered with her graceful movements. She also had a green thumb and loved working in her beautiful flower beds. A great cook, Olga had a special knack for creating memorable meals, including her renowned eggplant dressing that delighted many. Family gatherings were a treasured tradition in her home, where laughter and warmth filled the air as she hosted friends and relatives alike, ensuring that everyone felt welcome and loved. Nothing brought her more joy than having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren around her, filling her home with their youthful energy and laughter; she treasured every moment spent with them, always eager to create lasting memories.

Mrs. Champagne is survived by her loving husband of nearly 69 years, Lesley J. Champagne; children, Linda Champagne Bijeaux (John Bijeaux), Kathy Champagne-Indest (Eric Indest), and Greg Champagne (Dovie Guillotte Champagne); siblings, Jesse “Tut” Romero Comeaux, Ricky Romero (Mona), Susie Romero Pratt (Lane), and Virgie Romero McBride (Charlie); sister-in-law, Diana Romero; grandchildren, Brooke Indest Hoogendorn (James), Courtnie Bijeaux Morales (Ryan), Brandon Bijeaux, Matt Champagne, Lindsay Indest Fontenot (Mike), Michelle Champagne Stuhldreher (Tony), Jeremy Indest (Tabby), and Ian Bijeaux; great-grandchildren, Kaden Bourque, Drizzt Morales, Selena Morales Gaspard (Colt), Lucas Morales, Henry Morales, Ty Fontenot, Macy Fontenot, Holland Wilke, Griffin Hoogendorn, and Madden Cashat; and great-great-grandchildren, Eleanor “Ellie” Gaspard, Zachary Morales, and Zane Morales.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Gerald Romero, Paul Romero and wife Sandy Googenheim Romero, Helen “Judy” Romero Langlinais and husband Jimmy Langlinais, Barbara Romero Derouen and husband Jay Derouen, and Fran Romero Morel.

Pallbearers will be Ian Bijeaux, Jeremy Indest, Matt Champagne, Griffin Hoogendorn, Ty Fontenot, and Greg Champagne.

Olga will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her passion for life and joyful spirit. May she rest in peace.
