St. Martinville A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Pat Theriot, 70, who died Friday, September 6, 2013, in St. Martinville.
Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery.
Rev.Rusty P. Richard will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM Tuesday. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 8:00 AM until 11:30 AM.
Pat Theriot has been a long time resident and a businessman in St Martinville for 35 years as an independent agent for State Farm Insurance. He worked for the Xerox Corporation for 14 years prior to becoming a State Farm Agent. Pats dedication and devotion was recognized by State Farm and awarded Pat with membership in their Ambassador Travel Club and Legion of Honor Awards for 35 years along with the CVPC award and has been awarded a position in the Presidents Club for the past 7 years.
While establishing himself in the community for his business he has also been dedicated to the people and commerce of St. Martinville.
Pat re-established and re-organized the Chamber of Commerce of St. Martinville in 1981 after it had been dormant for a number of years. He has been an active member since that time.
Pat served in the Louisiana National Guard for 17 years and the last 7 years served as company commander and achieved the rank of major. In 1982, he started The First National Bank of St Martinville and served as Chairman of the Board.
He was Chairman of the Evangeline Area Boy Scouts for 4 years and was co-chairman for another 3 years.
Pat has served on the Industrial Development Board and Tourism Committee of St Martin Parish and was a member of the Louisana High School Athletic Association.
Presently, he was serving on the board for the South Louisiana Community College in Lafayette representing St. Martin Parish. He was a member of the Rotary Club for 35 years, serving as secretary, twice served as president and was chairman of the Rotary Mardi Gras Ball for 33 years.
His hobbies included traveling, camping, and socializing with friends. Pat also had a passion for horses and horseback riding. However, his family and friends came first. Besides his big heart, he was known for telling jokes and making you laugh.
Pat is survived by his wife, Kathryn Kathy Hempel Theriot of St. Martinville; children, Chad Theriot of Houston, Reagan Theriot of Houston, Jennifer Theriot of New Iberia, Leigh- Erin Theriot of Baton Rouge, Taylor Theriot of St. Martinville; step children, Angele Grimley and husband Corey of Lafayette, Lt. Marc LaFleur and wife Shugart of Albany, Georgia, Mignon LaFleur of Lafayette; sisters, Yvette Greig and husband Billy of St. Martinville, Lisa Delcambre and husband Pete of St. Martinville; mother-in-law, Edee Hempel of Lafayette; 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, several nieces and nephews; and a grandchild due to arrive in November.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pat Theriot, Sr., and Mary Bernard Theriot.
Pallbearers will be Chad Theriot, Reagan Theriot, Garrett Greig, Ethan Delcambre, Blake Theriot, and Alex Miller.
Honorary Pallbearers include Wayne Bienvenu, Mike Cohen, Rock Lasserre, Ray Pellerin, Igi Castille, Grant Gravois, Don Higginbotham, Gabe Cammerdale, and Chip Pupera.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Tannir at MD Anderson, Dr. Cain and Staff, and especially the Hospice Nurses, Susan Thibodeaux, Charles Reese, and Beth Wentz, also to Fr. Michael Champagne, and Fr. Rusty Richard
for their friendship, support, and spiritual guidance.
