Patrick Joseph Segura

New Iberia - Patrick Joseph Segura, 88, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 29, 2023, with his wife of 65 years, Shirley, by his side.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Pellerin Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Nativity of Our Lady Cemetery, with Military Honors by the Iberia Honor Guard.

Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home.

A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 10:00 am on Wednesday.

Patrick was a native of Loreauville and a resident of New Iberia.

He served bravely in the Air Force as a military policeman during the Korean War.

Patrick married the love of his life, Shirley Derouen, in 1957, and they shared nearly 66 years together and five beautiful children.

After the birth of his first child, who was a son, Patrick’s wife gave birth to four consecutive daughters. There was a running joke that after the birth of his first daughter, the doctor told him at each subsequent birth, “Pat, it’s another girl.”

Patrick was clearly outnumbered, but he wouldn’t have had it any other way. All his daughters called him “my daddy” as if they were his only daughter. That says everything about who he was as a father.

His son, Pat, was equally as devoted to his father and tirelessly cared for him during his final months.

Patrick Segura was a self-made man. He began his career as a welder’s helper at Dutch Gosnell and ended his highly respected career at the Port of Iberia as Plant General Manager at Allen Process Systems, LLC.

His career and his life were a study in kindness, loyalty, and integrity.

Patrick is survived by his wife, Shirley Derouen Segura; a son, Patrick J. Segura, Jr. and his wife, Jamie; daughters, Susan Fontenot and her husband, Rusty, Phyllis Segura, Andrea Arceneaux and her husband, Scott, Allison Olivier and her husband, Cody.

Patrick is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jami Maggio, Paige Segura, Jessie Gaudin, Scotty Gaudin, Chase Fontenot, Meghan Sonnier, Brooke Pellerin, Ava Arceneaux, and Carter Olivier; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Ulgere and Lota Dupois Segura; his brothers, Milton, Alton, Fred, Jerry, Percy, and Harry Segura; and his sister, Hilda Lissard.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Fontenot, Jessie Gaudin, Justin Pellerin, Ronnie Segura, Tim Segura, and Mike Sokol.

Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick J. Segura, Jr., Scott Arceneaux, Chase Fontenot, Carter Olivier, Scotty Gaudin, Meghan Sonnier, and Patrice Cavalier.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lasauda “La” Bob-Coleman for the quality of care that she provided to Patrick in his final months.

The family is also extends a special thank you to Sadie Smithson for the care she provided in Patrick’s final days.
