Breaux Bridge - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paula J. Melancon, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, who left this world on Monday, June 1, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on July 28, 1952, in Lafayette, Louisiana, Paula lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to her family and home.
Paula was a remarkable homemaker, known for her exceptional cooking skills, especially her famous smothered chicken and butter beans, which brought joy to many family gatherings. Her caring nature knew no bounds, as she always went above and beyond to ensure her children were happy and safe, expressing unwavering love and support. She took immense pride in her grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them, and her heart filled with joy as she watched them grow.
An avid reader, Paula loved to read and often spent time at the library. She enjoyed watching soap operas and chatting about the drama with her best friend, Deborah. Paula also found excitement and enjoyment in her trips to the casino, where she could often be found sipping on her favorite Dr. Pepper.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Francis Melancon; son, Paul Harvey Johnson (Molli); daughters, Pamela Johnson, Lori Patin (Dana), Kelly Melancon (Kevin) and Brandy Melancon (Heath); sisters, Dorothy "Dot" Sibille (Ray) and Sheila Day (Pat); grandchildren, Alex Nelson, Izabella Johnson, PJ Johnson, Dilan Patin, Demi Patin, Devin Patin, Kamryn Theriot, Kole Theriot, Averi Angelle and Bree Angelle; great-grandchildren, Kinley Nelson and AJ Nelson; her best friend, Deborah Scoggin; and a host of nieces, nephews and in-laws.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Johnson and Irene Savoy Johnson; and sisters, Barbara Duplechein, Della Picard and Baby Girl Johnson.
