A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 11:00 am on Wednesday.
Peggy’s heart was filled with immense love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life; reading a good book, tending to her flowers and plants; watching her favorite LSU teams and enjoying a really good margarita. Her days were often spent surrounded by family and friends offering unwavering support and affection to all who were lucky enough to know her.
Peggy graduated from New Iberia High School in 1962. She was a past member and president of the New Iberia Jaycee Janes. She was the co-owner of the Downtown Wine Cellar, City Clerk of New Iberia, and worked for the state and federal governments. She could often be found watching Disney movies, coloring, and playing Mr. Potato Head with her grands, where she created cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Peggy was a member of St. Marcellus Catholic Church. She found peace and strength praying the rosary in the quiet moments with the Lord.
Mrs. DeRouen is survived by her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 63 years, Jimmy J. DeRouen; sons, Joey J. DeRouen and wife Karen, and Jeff M. DeRouen and wife Dawn; sister, Verla LeCompte; grandchildren, Myles, Brett, Alex, Jules, and Chloe DeRouen, great-grandchildren, Eloise, Bella, M J DeRouen, and William, Preston, and Olivia East.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alder David and Pearl M. David; sister, Adley “Nicky” Castille; brothers-in-law, Howard Castille and Noland LeCompte; nephew, Randy Castile; in-laws, Walter and Felecie D. DeRouen; and her faithful pups, Buffy, Poodle, Manah, and Punky.
Our family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all who assisted in Peggy’s care during her illness, especially her home health aide, Cindy.
