Peggy Ann Eskind was born on January 1, 1961, to the late Herman, Sr. and Lucille Segura Gaspard. Peggy worked in housekeeping and laundry at Azalea Villa, now known as Maison Teche Nursing Home, for nine years, where she took pride in nurturing the spaces where others found comfort.

Peggy had a passion for playing cards, especially her favorite game, Bourree'. She loved going to the casino, where she excelled at 3-card poker and Blackjack.

Peggy was a good cook who particularly prided herself on her white beans. Her pumpkin cookies (which were supposed to be pumpkin pies!) were legendary amongst her family and friends. She had a unique way of cooking small for large gatherings and loved it when all the food was devoured!

Peggy reveled in “porch sitting,” which allowed her to visit with family while drinking coffee and smoking her cigarettes. These moments, filled with laughter and love, were some of her favorites. She will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Eskind is survived by her husband of 49 years, Mauldin J. Eskind; daughters, Cindy A. Pichoff (Edwin III), Shelia Ann Eskind Bourque (Wayne Sr.), Shelly Marie Kelly, Christine M. Wanthong (Sayramone), and Michelle Lee Eskind (Seksanh Louangdara); siblings, Bonnie Eskind (Elwood) and Herman “Raccoon” Gaspard, Jr. (Sarah); brother-in-law, Thomas Milazzo, Sr.; adopted children, Paula Eskind Hayes, Valerie Vargas, and Tyrone Benoit; grandchildren, Justin Michael Pichoff, Kari Michelle Pichoff, Jonathan Matthew Pichoff, Wayne Joseph Bourque, Jr., Allissa Michelle Bourque, Joseph Michael Eskind (who was the favorite!), Kaleb Jason Kelly, Zoie Kelly, Dylan Michael Wanthong, Brandon Michael Wanthong, Briana Tudspon Louangdara, and Sophia Claire Louangdara; and great-grandchildren, Paisley R. Boutte, Alayna C. Pichoff, Kelleigh R. Pichoff, Brayden K. Pichoff, Kolten M. Pichoff, Amelia G. Pichoff, Ava R. Touchet, Averie K. Laperouse, Jayden Bourque, Aizlyn Bourque, Kaelan Bourque, Taytum Trimble, Eli Trimble, Malikye Trimble, Livie J. Eskind, and Landrie J. Eskind.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Cathy Milazzo and Patrick Gaspard.

As we celebrate Peggy, we do so with gratitude for the beautiful moments we shared, forever keeping her spirit alive in our hearts. May she rest in peace.
