New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Monday, January 24, 2011 at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia for Raoul Borel, 92 who died Thursday, January 20, 2011 in Broussard. Entombment will follow in Beau Pre Cemetery , in Jeanerette. Rev.Charles Langlois will be the Celebrant. Liz Buteau and Susan Koopman will proclaim the readings. Gift Bearers include Jennifer Borel and Kristen Segura. Born on December 24, 1918 in Jeanerette, Mr. Borel worked for D.C. Bonnet Trucking Company, B.J. Hughes, and was a sales representative for the Vernon Advertising Specialties Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during World War II, past president of the Hoedowners Square Dancing Club, and was active in the Senior Olympics. Survivors include his daughters, Sharon LaCombe and husband E.P., Myra Bienvenu and husband Bert, and Beth Borel, all of New Iberia; son, Thayer Borel and wife Edith of Baton Rouge; brother, Holland Andrew Borel of Jeanerette; sisters, Marilyn Dykes, of Jeanerette, Raye Boutte of Jeanerette, Marian Bouligny of New Iberia; grandchildren, Susan Koopman and husband William of Scottsboro, Alabama, Brian Borel and wife Yvette of Baton Rouge, Jennifer Borel of Baton Rouge, Brandon Bienvenu and wife Brooke of St. Martinville, Kristen Segura and husband Bron of Broussard; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Nora Chriss Borel; and a sister, Thelma Olivier. Pallbearers will be Brian Borel, Brandon Bienvenu, William Koopman, Bron Segura, and Chris LeBlanc. The family would like to give special thanks to the administration and staff of Camelot of Broussard, and also to 'Pops Girls', Carissa, Connie, and the many other caregivers for the extraordinary care and compassion given to Mr. Borel.
