Funeral services for Ray John Bonvillain will be held Monday, August 7, 2023, at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux during an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Following the Mass, he will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux.

Father Rholando Garcia will be the Celebrant for the Mass and conduct the services.

Visitations will be held Monday, August 7th, at St. Joseph from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 10:00 AM, led by family members.

A father and Poppa, Ray was born in Gibson, Louisiana on May 14, 1944, one of seven children born to Willie and Eula Usey Bonvillain. Ray was an educator most of his life. He taught for 20 years at Breaux Bridge Jr. High and several years at Arnaudville Elementary. He also served as principal at Amy Ware in Opelousas and St. Agnes Elementary Catholic in West Monroe.

Ray is survived by his two adopted sons, Jason and Christopher and the light of his eyes, his granddaughter, Emerson. He is also survived by his brothers Larry and wife Shirley, Gary and his wife Rose, Terry and his wife, Mary and Ricky and his only sister, Dale Nash; as well as numerous nephews and his niece and godchild, Priscilla and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Eula Usey Bonvillain, his brother Donald and wife Patty, his sister-in-law, GiGi Bonvillain, his brother-in-law, Ben Nash, his niece, Lesley Bonvillain LeBlanc and nephew, James Bonvillain.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home and Acadia-St. Landry Hospital and Hope Hospice for their care and support during Ray's last days.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer’s Association
