New Iberia - Memorial services ;will be at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 2, 2011 ;at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for Ray J. Etie, 88 who died Monday, March 28, 2011 in New Iberia . Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate.Born on September 29, 1922 in New Iberia , Mr. Etie served our country in the United States Navy from August 1943 to December 1945, aboard the USS Copahee Aircraft Carrier, during World War II. In 1946 he started his career at the Daily Iberian, which lasted over 41 years, having retired in 1987. Mr. Etie worked as a Circulation Manager, and then transferred to the advertising department, and then to the mechanical department. In addition, he worked as a linotype operator setting ads, and when computers came into the newspaper industry, he worked as a compugraphic on the '7200 Machine'. Mr. Etie then worked in the ad makeup until his retirement. He and his wife, 'Tibby' love to go camping, making lots of friends wherever they would go. Survivors include children, Ronny Etie and wife Judy of New Iberia, Carolyn Bouillion and husband Barry of New Iberia, Byron Etie and wife Martha of New Iberia, Scott Etie and wife, Shelia of Athens, TN; eight grandchildren, Quincy, Bobby, Dane, Kayleigh, Seth, Ty, Dodi, Heidi; and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, "Tibby" Etie; and his parents, Leo and Deuce Hebert.The family would like to express their greatest appreciation to Heart of Hospice for all the loving care and kindness they gave to Ray in his time of need. Also to his daughter-in-law, Martha and his son, Byron for taking him home with them to make him comfortable during his last days, and especially his main caregiver, Corey Durham for going far beyond what was expected of him.
