Coteau - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:00 PM, on Friday, April 15, 2016, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau, for Raywood Joseph Gachassin, 73, who passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016, in Lafayette.
Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 2:30 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Thursday evening. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9:00 AM until 2:15 PM.
A native of New Iberia and a lifelong area resident, Mr. Gachassin was born on November 30, 1942 to Adleys and Nola Norris Gachassin. He was a graduate of New Iberia High School, and worked as a security guard at Avery Island for 16 years. Mr. Gachassin was a talented wood craftsman who created numerous items throughout his life for several churches, organizations, and friends. He also enjoyed gardening, riding horses, raising chickens, birds, dogs, and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Choate Gachassin of Broussard; sons, Kristopher Raywood Gachassin of Lafayette, Rory Gachassin of Grantsville, West Virginia, Jeremy Hull of St. Mary Parish; daughter, Monique Mayer of Broussard; sisters, Mary Mann of Erath, Marie Charpentier and husband Gayle of New Iberia, Ella Carter and husband Mike of Arnaudville, Anna Labit and husband Renice of New Iberia, Brenda Durocher and husband Lloyd of Delcambre, Susie Bonin and husband Kenny of Coteau; brothers, Johnny Gachassin and wife Phyllis of New Iberia, Adleys Gachassin and wife Greta of New Iberia, Ricky Gachassin and wife Cheryl of New Iberia, Jack Gachassin and wife Carol Ann of Ruston; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wade Gachassin.
Pallbearers will be Kristopher Gachassin, Matt Gachassin, Jack Gachassin, Sterling Gachassin, Jon Freeman, and Adleys Gachassin.
Honorary pallbearers include Lee Charpentier, Casey Charpentier, Bradley Charpentier, Tommy Lasseigne, and Brent Durocher.
