Lydia - A Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 PM, Thursday, July 7, 2016, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Lydia, for Raywood J. Viator, 78, who passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016, in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. Gregory Chauvin will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 8:00 AM until 1:15 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 AM Thursday.
A native of Coteau and a lifelong area resident, Mr. Viator was born on August 24, 1937 to Philias and Emily Babineaux Viator. He was a graduate of New Iberia High School, and had proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Viator retired from Schlumberger and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, cooking, and going to Victor's Cafeteria on Wednesday's to visit with his military friends.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Joyce Terradot Viator of New Iberia; children, Bret Viator and wife Diana of New Iberia, Kit Viator of Lafayette, and Yvette Viator of New Iberia; brother, Michael Ancelet and wife Kathy of Lafayette; sister, Cathy Jobe and husband Cliff of Lafayette; grandchildren, Cheyne Opiela, Colton Opiela, Keegan Welker, Kyler Welker, Sierra Welker, Cheyla Welker.
He was preceded in death by father, Philias Viator; mother, Emily Babineaux Viator Ancelet; step father, Lenis Ancelet; an infant brother, Donald Viator; and an infant sister, Louisa Viator.
Pallbearers will be Cheyne Opiela, Colton Opiela, Keegan Welker, Kyler Welker, Matt Cusick, and Eric Terradot.
