Cecilia- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia honoring the life of Richard "Dickie" Calais, 83, who passed away on April 17, 2026 at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center.
A visitation will take place at Pellerin Funeral Home in Cecilia on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will continue on the Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM on Tuesday.
Rev. Gregory Cormier will officiate at the funeral mass. Readers will be Allison Knott and Cheryl Guidry. Gift bearers will be Nancy Arnaud and Melissa Arnaud.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Born on October 8, 1942, Dickie dedicated his life to education and his community, serving as a math teacher for 21 years with the St. Martin Parish School Board. His passion for learning inspired countless students, and his commitment to fostering education extended well beyond the classroom.
Throughout his life, he engaged deeply with his community, attending activities and supporting various programs at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was an active member.Dickie loved the outdoors, spending his free time hunting and fishing. He enjoyed carving and sharpening knives, playing with his dogs, and cheering on his nephews during sports events. Counted among the many joys of his life were mornings spent drinking coffee at the Pig and his friendships shared with fellow members in several hunting clubs. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his sisters, Nancy Arnaud (Warren) and Sheila Calais; nephew, Spencer Arnaud (Melissa); niece, Allison Knott (Travis); and great nephews, Gavin Knott, Jace Knott, Hayden Arnaud, Collin Arnaud, and Ashton Knott.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mae Angelle Calais; and aunt, Esperance "Baso" Angelle.
Pallbearers will be Spencer Arnaud, Gavin Knott, Jace Knott, Hayden Arnaud, Collin Arnaud, and Ashton Knott.
Honorary pallbearers will be Warren Arnaud and Travis Knott.
