Richard Allen Guidry Sr. was born in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana on June 28, 1943, and was a graduate of USL (now UL). His thirst for knowledge and passion for learning were evident throughout his career. He was a dedicated Medical Technologist who served the community for over three decades at Iberia Medical Center, where he touched countless lives. His life was a testament of compassion, hard work, and kindness.
Richard was a man of many talents and interests. His love for fishing, cooking, and listening to music brought joy to those around him, while his green thumb shone through in the meticulous care he devoted to his yard.
However, it was perhaps in serving others that Richard found his true calling. For 21 years, he selflessly volunteered at St. Francis Diner, where he served as Board President for several years and guiding the organization with wisdom and compassion. His involvement in the Optimist Club further showcased his dedication to making the world a better place.
Richard's faith was central to his life, as seen through his active participation at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. As a eucharistic minister and assisting in the building of the new church, he embodied the values of service and community. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him within the church walls.
An avid sports fan, Richard's enthusiasm for baseball and football was infectious, bringing together friends and family in spirited gatherings filled with laughter and camaraderie. His love for family was contagious; he cherished every moment spent in their company with warmth and affection.
Mr. Guidry is survived by his loving wife, Marella Hebert Guidry; children, Richard Guidry Jr. (Janae), Michelle Stelly (Travis), Simone Guardia (Jeremy), and Matt Guidry; grandchildren, Taylor Guidry, Thomas Guidry, Kristina Guidry Olivier (Ethan), Easton Stelly, Emma Stelly, and Oliver Guardia; great-grandchildren, Violet and Isla Guidry; siblings, Kenneth Guidry (Millie) and Dale Mouton (Harry); and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Verna Champagne Guidry.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Kristina with BrightCare Homecare; and to Erin Guidry with Traditions Hospice for extraordinary care and compassion.
Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication that will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. May he rest in peace knowing that he made a difference in the lives of so many.
