Breaux Bridge, Louisiana - A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 10, 2024, at St. Bernard Cemetery #2 for Rita Domingue, 94, who passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home. 

Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate at the graveside service.

Rita Degeyter Domingue, born on February 1, 1930, brought warmth, creativity, and a strong work ethic into the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. On May 4, 2024, the world lost a remarkable woman whose presence brightened every room she entered.

Rita's memory will always be cherished by her surviving family members: her loving children and those whose lives she touched with her and generosity. Her legacy lives on not only in the incredible work ethic she instilled in her children but also in the countless memories of her unwavering strength and determination.

Those who knew Rita remember her as a beacon of light, always ready to illuminate even the darkest of days with her infectious positivity. Her creative spirit knew no bounds, touching everything she did - from baking delicious treats to solving intricate jigsaw puzzles.

In her free time, Rita indulged in various hobbies that brought her joy and relaxation. Whether she was traveling to new places, camping under the stars, or immersing herself in sewing projects or word search puzzles, Rita found happiness in the simple pleasures of life.

One particularly enduring memory of Rita is her dedication to maintaining a pristine lawn, a testament to her impeccable work ethic. Cutting acres of grass with a push mower was no match for Rita's determination and resilience - a true reflection of her indomitable spirit.

As we bid farewell to Rita Degeyter Domingue, let us carry forward the light she brought into our lives and honor her memory by embodying the values of hard work, kindness, and creativity that she so effortlessly exemplified. Rita may have left this world, but her legacy will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

She is survived by her daughters, Gay D. (Garland) Broussard and Mela D. (Alfred) Gallagher; stepson, Darrel Domingue; sisters, Marella (Chuck) Hefner and Cecile Frederick; grandson, Ryan J. Leger; her great grandchildren, Drake, Blake and Jaide Lacombe; and her great-great grandchildren, Charlee Winn, Benson Lacombe, and Baylin Lacombe. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cyriac and Corrinne Sonnier Degeyter; son, Terry Domingue; daughter, Joy Domingue Conley; sisters, Anne Dugas, Mary Claire Castille, and Mary Lou Lasseigne; brothers, Paul Degeyter, Cyriac Degeyter and Alfred Degeyter; and her former husband, L.J. Domingue.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Tradition Health for their compassion and care for their loved one.
