Robert Bob Melendy

New Iberia Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Robert Bob C. Melendy, 68 who died Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in New Iberia. A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. Deacon Theo Landry will officiate. A longtime area resident, Bob was born on March 9, 1946 in Hanover, New Hampshire to Robert and Elizabeth Wing Melendy. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and worked as a Senior Avionics Technician for Avionic Solutions, in Abbeville. His hobbies included playing cards, shooting pool, and flying. Survivors include his companion of seven years, Patsy Braus Cathey of New Iberia; step sons, Wayne Blankenship and wife Joyce of Bayou Lourse, Donald Blankenship of Morgan City; step daughers, Brenda Helveston of Bayou Vista, Deanna Hillebran of Morgan City; brothers, Arthur Melendy of Manchester, NH, Jon David Melendy and wife Sue of South Strafford, Vermont; sisters, Leona Ann Clogston and husband Gordon of Sussex, Wisconsin, Heidi Mazzone and husband Paul of Punta Gorda, Florida; 19 step grandchildren, two of which he raised as his own, Vernon Paul Perkins and wife Trish of St. Martinville and Carl Pierre Keiffer of Berwick; 43 step great grandchildren, 11 step great great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Chauvin Melendy; paternal grandparents, Don Lee and Ellen Phila Melendy; maternal grandparents, David E. and Annie Wing; stepdaughters, Ruth Ann Keiffer, Sandra Gail Blankenship, and Debbie Lou Beard.
