New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in New Iberia for Robert A. 'Bob' Nelson, 83 who died Monday, May 16, 2010 in New Iberia .
Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by the New Iberia VFW Post 1982.
Msgr. Richard Greene will be the Celebrant.
Born on October 6, 1927 , Mr. Nelson retired from Teledyne Movable Offshore as a drilling manager in 1992, after working over 44 years in the oilfield. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II, he enjoyed dancing, fishing, and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia 'Pat' Marionneaux Nelson of New Iberia; sons, David Nelson and wife Jessie of New Iberia, Charles Kilgore and wife Julie of New Iberia; grandchildren, Chancey Nelson and wife Pam of New Iberia, Amber Armentor and husband Doug of New Iberia, Kimberlie Monroe and husband Garret of Loreauville, Shane Kilgore of Loreauville, Judson Kilgore and wife Katrina of New Iberia; great grandchildren, Kassidy, Laurie, Gunner, Chelsie, Tyler, Adyson, Analiegh; Pat's children, Brett Stassi and wife Caroline of Plaquemine, Suzanne Fraser and husband Scott of Chandler Arizona, Scott Stassi and wife Sandi of Plaquemine; Pat's grandchildren, Brett Michael, Annemarie, Annette, Sarah, John, Claire; sister-in-law, Marie Nelson of McAllen, Texas; nieces, Tiana Scruggs and husband Bill of Austin, Texas, and Linda Rowland of Austin, Texas.
He was preceded in death by parents, Dallas and Maude Taylor Nelson; his first wife, Elsie Mae White Nelson; and a brother, Dallas Mims Nelson, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Garret Monroe, Judson Kilgore, Chancey Nelson, Doug Armentor, Shane Kilgore, and Tyler Nelson.
Honorary pallbearers include Michael White, Dennis Dworaczyk, Chad Pellerin, Brett Stassi, Scott Stassi, and Bill Scruggs.
Bob's family would like to express their appreciation to Iberia Medical Home Health Care, Heart of Hospice, and to his special caregiver, Brandon Dutil, for their extraordinary care and compassion.
A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd , in New Iberia . A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Wednesday. Visitation will continue Thursday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM .
