New Iberia Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Friday, January 31, 2014 at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for Ronald Thomas Pickett, 80, who died Wednesday, January 22, 2013 in New Iberia. Entombment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Father Ed Degeyter will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, January 28, 2014 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Thursday. Visitation will continue Friday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Ronald was born in Henrietta, TX, Clay County on November 7, 1933 to William and Mary Pickett. He joined the Navy at the age of 17. Ronald was enlisted for just over 20 years serving two wars, being stationed on ships that rescued all astronauts from the ocean on their return trip home and then retiring in New Iberia, LA where he was later stationed at the Navy base before retiring. It is there where he met Ursule (Sue) Frederick and later was married. Ronald was a good husband and father. He accepted being a father to her three children Gerald (Gerry), Ricky and Claven (C.J). After retiring, he then went to work for the LA State DOTD until he fully retired. He also loved to do wood work and gardening. He is survived by one brother age 87, Jack Pickett of Vicksburg, MS and step children Jerry Fredrick of Atlanta, Georgia, wife Jeannie and Ricky Frederick of New Iberia, LA, wife Rose and daughter-in-law Yvonne Frederick of Kingwood, TX and grandchildren Charles (Chucky) Frederick, Kim Frederick Mire, Jennifer Frederick, Mark Fredrick, Nicole Frederick, Lora Fredrick Young, Shonnia Frederick Guilotte, Philip Fredrick, Melissa Frederick Demand, Amanda Frederick Melancon, Sarah Frederick, Micah Frederick In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ursule (Sue), brothers Vernon, Billy and Kenneth; sisters, Eunice and Lynell and step-son Claven (C.J) Frederick.
