St. Martinville - A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 05, 2024 at Union Baptist Church for Roosevelt "Junius" Voorhies, Jr., 78, who passed away on September 27, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family.
A visitation will take place in St. Martinville at Union Baptist Church on Saturday. October 5, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Rev. Darren A. Benoit is the presiding Pastor of Union Baptist Church. Rev. Leroy Banks, Jr. will officiate the funeral service.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roosevelt Voorhies Jr., a beloved member of the St. Martinville community, who was called home on September 27, 2024. Born on February 12,1946, in St. Martinville, Louisiana, Roosevelt was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Throughout his life, Roosevelt was known for his unconditional dedication to his family and his work. As a Capping Machine Operator at Cajun Chef's for over five decades, he displayed a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
In his spare time, Roosevelt enjoyed grilling and listening to the blues with a cold beverage in hand. He found joy in sports, including basketball, football, and bowling, and entertained his loved ones with his harmonica skills. He gave his life to Christ in 2018.
He is survived by his spouse, Hattie Voorhies; sons, Allen (Michelle Ned) Voorhies, Roosevelt (Danyelle) Zenon and George (Summer) Zenon; daughters, Renee (Cornelius) Conston, Darlene (Rodney) Joseph and Carolyn (Roderick) Broussard; 23 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt Voorhies, Sr. and Josephine Florentine; brothers, Preston, Eddie and Adolph Williams; sisters, Beverly James, Edna Williams, and Bessie Mallery; and his great grandchild, Skylee Martin.
Pallbearers will be Devyn Zenon, Kyler Zenon, Rodney Joseph, Reignny Joseph, Quaseame Conston and Tayden Zenon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Conston, Bryan Conston, Kyle Conston, Jaelen Day and Elijah Francis.
Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
