CoteauHolmes - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Monday, May 2, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Coteau Holmes, for Roy Anthony Bernard, 92, who passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2011 at his residence. Fr. Joseph Padinjarepeedika, CMI, will officiate at the Funeral Mass. The scriptures will be read by Annette Trahan and Cala Foti. Gift Bearers will be Tiffany Vincent, Sherry Barthkowicz, and Tori Champagne. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Coteau Holmes, with his grandson, Cody Cormier, playing Taps during his military honors tribute. Mr. Bernard was a veteran of World War II, having honorably served his country in the United States Army and was retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad, where he worked for almost 30 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In his younger days he was known to be very mechanically inclined, which led to him becoming an inventor, with a patented invention, in which he was passionate about and was very proud of. He loved hunting, spending time with his family, and reading, especially his prayer books and God's word. He had a strong faith in God and would have weekly 'Come Lord Jesus' meetings at his home with his family. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Ludy Babineaux Bernard of Coteau Holmes; two sons, Denis Bernard and his wife, Lana, of New Iberia, and Terry Bernard and his wife, Jane, of St. Martinville; four daughters, Genny Dugas and her husband, J.C. of St. Martinville, Linda Cormier and her husband, Don, of Parks, Sarah Foti and her husband, Freddy, of St. Martinville, and Annette Trahan and her husband, Timmie of Coteau Holmes; one brother, Sandy Bernard of Coteau Holmes; two sisters, Elia Fuselier and her husband, Claude, of New Orleans, and Florence Bourque, of Coteau Holmes; 19 grandchildren, Connie, Jason, Todd, Denise, Lillian, Tori, T.J., Tiffany, Kevin, Sherry, Kristin, Cody, Zeb, Zack, Cala, Corey, Angelique, James, and Nikki; 18 great grandchildren, Jordy, Jacylin, Charlie, Brianna, Hart, Ell, Hannah, Luke, Michael, Darien, Thomas, Eva, Benjamin, Baylie, Cameron, Demi, Caden, and Selene; 8 step great grandchildren, Alexis, Seth, Sy, Breleigh, Brittany, Braxton, Sophie, and Gabrielle; and 2 great-great grandchildren, Mason and Jayden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Odile B. Bernard; a brother, Godfrey Bernard; a sister, Elbay Judice; his daughter-in-law, Patricia Bernard; brothers-in-law, Clifton Bourque and Louis Judice; a granddaughter, Monique Trahan; and a grandson, Tracy Cormier. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home in St. Martinville from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Sunday and continue on Monday at 8 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Pallbearers will be Kevin Dugas, Corey Trahan, Zeb Foti, Terry Bernard, Jr., Zack Foti, and Cody Cormier. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Dugas, Todd Dugas, and James Bourg.
