Roy was born on June 17, 1945 in St. Martinville, Louisiana. He found joy in the outdoors. He operated tractors at Oakbourne Country Club, worked construction, and farmed okra and peppers. Roy had a passion for blues music and dancing. He spent hours, especially recently, listening to the blues station on television. He enjoyed cruising and clubbing with his son, Roy Jr. Most importantly, he cherished the many hours spent laughing and debating with his wife, daughter, sons, and nephew. Roy found peace in his faith and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He could be heard praying the Lord's prayer, "Our Father" for himself and for others. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Patsy Landry Charles, who cooked, cleaned, and ran his bath water daily for their 56 years of marriage. He is also survived by his children, Ronald Drake, Roy Charles, Jr. (wife: Marlene Charles), Steven Charles (wife: Monique Charles), and Dr. Christie Charles; grandchildren, Trae Charles and Trevelyn Charles; great-grandchildren, Tinsley and Taisley Charles; and a multitude of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt Charles and Lorena Landry Charles, his brothers, Henry Landry and Norris Charles, and a host of dearly departed family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Landry, Fred Narcisse, Germaine Etienne, Ronald Drake, Trae Charles and John Narcisse.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Charles, Jr., Steven Charles, Marshall Landry, Andrew Landry, Calvin Johnson and Joseph Narcisse.
Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, no evil will befall you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For He will put His angels in charge of you to guard you in all your ways. Psalm 91:9-11
