Breaux Bridge

Lifelong resident of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, Ruby Thibodeaux Josey, affectionately known by family and friends as "Bam", 85, passed peacefully at her residence on August 3, 2025.

At her request, no service will be held.

Ruby was born on October 31, 1939, in Breaux Bridge, LA, and enjoyed everyone celebrating her Halloween birthday. Proud of her heritage, she never missed an opportunity to educate those who desired knowledge of Cajun history, lineage, and the Cajun French language. Anyone who knew Ruby realized her passion for the written word and ability to unravel the mysteries unattainable by most. An avid reader, she consistently read her limit of weekly borrowed books from the St. Martin Parish Public Library in Breaux Bridge. The staff there were always busy supplying her with the up-to-date bestseller list. She was known for saying, "Read everything, anything, even the cover of the cereal box!".

She was well accomplished as an insurance salesperson and was fondly recognized as "The Insurance Lady" by her adoring customers.

Most importantly, her roles as mom, Bam, and friend were truly where she shone the most. Ruby shared her strength as a rightful Steel Magnolia, raising her daughters to be strong women who reflected her ability to be caring, compassionate, and brave. Her grand and great-grandchildren all shared her love and affection equally as she spent many days and nights rocking and singing "Bar Bar Pou" and other French melodies to them all. Ruby was a wealth of knowledge and happily offered words of wisdom to those who asked. She enjoyed a hot cup of coffee and good conversations with friends and family, whether in person or on the phone. Cooking and attending suppers were her way of sharing good times as well as difficult times with her multitude of friends.

Ruby is survived by three daughters, Collette Josey, Sandra "Sandy" Josey, Peggy Josey (Butch Castille), and her late daughter's husband, Ricky (Marlene) LeBlanc. four grandchildren: Matt LeBlanc (Jenna), Tabitha Dautreuil, Billy Josey (Lindsey), and Jade Toups (Crawford), seven great-grandchildren: Mason and Graham LeBlanc, Davey Hassell II, Wyatt and Sawyer Toups, Connor Josey, and Aurora Livingston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theresa Berard Champagne and Daniel R. Thibodeaux; first husband William "Willie" Josey, second husband Charles Bertrand; sister RoseAnn Theriot; daughter Marlene LeBlanc; and grandsons Jerred Paul Josey and Ronny "T-Ron" Thibodeaux II.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Acadiana and Calcutta House of Lafayette, LA, as well as the many caregivers and friends who visited, called, and offered words of support and prayer.

In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Ruby "Bam" Josey's memory may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, Calcutta House of Lafayette, LA, or a memorial book donation can be made at the Breaux Bridge St. Martin Parish Library.

Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
