Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel, in Breaux Bridge for Rufus Joseph Pontiff, 89, who died on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at St. Agnes Nursing Home in Breaux Bridge. Fr. Ed Degeyter will officiate at the funeral service. Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 1 - Mausoleum in Breaux Bridge . Rufus was born on May 27, 1921 to Ovide and Armine Guidry Pontiff. He was employed for many years at Daniel Thibodeaux General Merchandise Store in Parks. Survivors include his daughter, Linda P. Martinez of Parks; six grandchildren, Scott Martinez, Chip Martinez, Brock Menard, Kolin Menard, Tara M. Berard, and Camron Menard; and seven great grandchildren, Brooks Martinez, Brett Martinez, Tyler Martinez, Hayden Menard, Treylen Berard, Gavin Lasseigne, and Jace Menard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Calais Pontiff; his son, Ronald Pontiff; his daughter, Bonnie Pontiff Menard; his parents; two brothers, George and Roy Pontiff; and two sisters, Pearl P. Calais and Lillian P. Guidry. The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 9:30 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Scott Martinez, Chip Martinez, Brock Menard, Kolin Menard, Tyler Martinez, and Brooks Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be and Brett Martinez, Hayden Menard, and Treylen Berard. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
