Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Rule Joseph Guidry, 85, who passed away on Monday, March 7, 2011 at his residence. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia. Fr. Paul LaFleur will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Jacob Guidry and Ryker Melancon. Gift Bearers will be Gaynel Castille, Rookie LeBlanc, and Diane Degataire. Mr. Guidry was veteran of World War II, having proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He was a parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church and was retired from Cargill Salt, where he worked for 26 years, and St. Martin Parish School Board for 9 years. In his free time Rule loved gardening and woodworking - having built numerous Cypress swings of all varieties and sizes for family and friends to enjoy. He also enjoyed going dancing with the love of his life, Bernice, cooking for his family, and he most especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were the pride and joy in his life. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Bernice Trahan Guidry of Breaux Bridge; his son, Billy John Guidry and his wife, Denise, of St. Martinville; his daughter, Elizabeth G. Melancon and her husband, Terry, of Breaux Bridge; his brother, Richard T. Guidry of Breaux Bridge, five grandchildren, Jacob Guidry, Jared Guidry, Jordan Guidry, Ryker Melancon, and Mia M. Boudreaux; and four great grandchildren, Maddox Boudreaux, Cohen Rule Melancon, Claire E. Guidry, and Rylin Boudreaux. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alusar and Batistine Patin Guidry; a daughter, Penny Ann Guidry; one sister, Alice LeBlanc; and six brothers, Edwin, Stephen, Paul 'Blanco', J.C., Antoine, and Francis Guidry. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and continue on Wednesday at 7 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Tucker Guidry, Larry Guidry, Dwayne Guidry, Kurt Guidry, Johnny Guidry, and Andy LeBlanc.
