Russell Joseph Berard

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Russell Joseph Berard, 85, who passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016, in Broussard, LA. A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, and continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Tuesday. Rev. Mark Derise will officiate. Entombment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia. Russell was a 1947 graduate of New Iberia High School, where he was on the boxing team. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1948-1952, having served aboard the U.S.S. Grouse AMS-15 Mine Sweeper. He retired as a Mud Engineer with Texaco with over 30 years of service. He is survived by a daughter, Zanetta Berard of New Iberia; two sons, Marc Berard and wife Phyllis of New Iberia, and Jason Berard and wife Sandra of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Jimmy Berard and wife Dean of New Iberia, and David Berard and wife Dalie of Coteau Holmes; three granddaughters, Sara Long and Lori Berard, both of New Iberia, and Carlie Berard of Baton Rouge; three grandsons, Seth Long and wife Brandi of Monterrey, CA, Marc Berard, Jr. of New Orleans, and Chase Berard of New Iberia; 11 great-grandchildren, and his longtime companion, Angie Ariola of New Iberia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janell Marie Babineaux Berard; a brother, Dailey Berard, and his parents, Blanc Berard and Maude Broussard Berard. Pallbearers will be Chase Berard, Marc Owen Berard Jr., Seth Long, Jason Berard, Paul Delcambre, and David Berard. Honorary pallbearer is Cullen Bouton. Russell was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cookouts with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Russells memory to the Alzheimers Association, 7732 Goodwood Blvd., Ste. 110, Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
