Coteau - Funeral services will be held at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, for Russell Paul Romero, 75, who passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.

Entombment will follow at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church Cemetery in Coteau.

Deacon Durk Viator will officiate.

Visitation will be at Pellerin Funeral Home on Monday from 4:30 pm until 9:00 pm, and will resume on Tuesday from 9:00 am until 10:00 am.

A rosary, led by Deacon Durk Viator, will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Monday.

A native of New Iberia and a resident of Coteau, Russell Paul Romero was born on October 17, 1950, to the late Joseph and Lena Domingue Romero. 

An animal lover, Russell raised many horses that he thought he would be able to sell. However, the horses became his pets, as he could not bring himself to sell and part with them. His wife, Terrie jokingly called all of those horses “yard ornaments.”

Russell loved playing Bourree’ on Tuesdays with his friends, Sim, Tommy, James, Francis, Steve, and Jerry. He loved the game, but what made him most happy was taking all the money from his buddies.

Russell was incredibly proud of his boys, Brent and Dave, and all of their accomplishments. But what he loved most and held dearest to his heart were his grandchildren.

Russell was known for his strong values and unwavering dedication to his family. He will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and love of family and friends.

Mr. Romero is survived by his loving wife of 55 years (whose wedding took place on Russell’s birthday), Terrie Brownlee Romero; sons, Brent Romero (Bridgett) and Dave Romero (Angie); grandchildren, Bailey Romero, Quinten Romero, Jacob Romero, and Caleb Romero; sister, Darlene Frederick; brother, Joseph Romero; godchildren, Nicole Romero, Chad Frederick, and Lance Romero; and special buddy, Zane Frederick.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Linda Romero; brother-in-law, Lloyd Frederick; nephew, James Romero; and in-laws, James and Norma Brownlee.

Serving as pallbearers are Brent Romero, Dave Romero, Quinten Romero, Jacob P. Romero, Jerry Arcement, and Sim Armentor.

Honorary pallbearer is Zane Frederick.

Russell’s spirit will live forever in our hearts. May he rest in peace.
