Coteau A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau for Russell Joseph Romero, 76, who died Monday, April 14, 2014, in Lafayette.
Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum.
Rev. Barry Crochet will be the Celebrant, and Rev. Ed Degeyter will Con-Celebrate.
A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 9:30 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Tuesday. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until 2:15 PM.
A native and lifelong resident of Coteau, Mr. Romero was born on March 9, 1938, and was the son of Clovis and Amy Romero. He was a Knights of Columbus Insurance Agent for over 28 years, and had previously worked 22 years for Cleco. An avid LSU football fan, Mr. Romero was also a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus member.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Helen Dean Romero of Coteau; daughters, Helene Wyzard and husband John of Purvis, MS, Vickie Viator and husband Tommy of Coteau, Gwen Forslund and husband Douglas of Youngsville, Angela Trahan and husband Paul Trahan, Jr. of Coteau; four granddaughters, Paula Leonard and husband Marc of Coteau, Brandi Menard and husband Jason of Coteau, Jamie Lormond and husband Scott of Coteau, Mary Wyzard of Purvis, MS; four great grandchildren, Kole Richard, Caden Clark, Alli Lormond, and Ana Leonard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Ryan Trahan; a great grandson, Jacques Paul Leonard; and a special aunt and uncle, Elien and Olite Romero.
Pallbearers will be Doug Forslund, Paul Trahan, Jr., Jason Menard, Scott Lormond, Marc Leonard, and Butch Tastet.
Honorary pallbearers include Tommy Viator, John Wyzard, and Eric Castille.
