Parks - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parks for Sammy Russo, 80, who passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at his residence.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in St. Martinville on Friday from 4:30 pm until 8:00 pm. It will continue on Saturday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Friday evening.
Father David Rozas will officiate at the Funeral Mass.
A proud veteran, Sammy honorably served in the United States Air Force in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the 1st CEG and the President of the Cattleman Association. Sammy was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parks.
Sammy loved to travel and he found great joy in exploring new places with his beloved wife, Mona. Together, they created countless cherished memories and collected stories that will forever be etched in their hearts. Sammy also enjoyed cooking and spending time outdoors on his tractor. He shared an unbreakable bond with his loyal companion, Lilly, his cherished dog. Sammy was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Monita "Mona" Russo; son, Eric John Russo (Erin); daughter, Jenny Maria Russo; grandchildren, Alice Marie Russo and Russell "Rusty" Russo; brothers, Leonard Russo (Rosemary), Victor Russo, Nathan Russo, Sam Russo, Joe Russo, Charlie Russo and Jack Russo; sisters, Virginia Latiolais (Dewey), Chris Wyatt, Linda Cruther and Jodie Russo; and sister-in-law, Denise Russo.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam Russo and Gercy Champagne Russo; brother, David Russo; and sister, Belinda Russo.
