Shavanda "Sugie" Robertson was born December 20, 1973 in Lafayette, Louisiana. Her entry into the world was faced with challenges but she proved to be a formidable opponent. Shavanda grew up with her mother in sunny California where she grew up to be strong and independent. Failure to execute a task was not an option for Sugie! As she reached adulthood with determination, resilience and attitude, she was ready to take on the world! NO FEAR, NO REMORSE OR HESITATION!
Shavanda loved to draw; she had a passion for word search puzzles. She loved to shop at the mall, the farmers market, shopping centers or flea markets, the grocery store or department stores! She just loved to shop and be social. She also loved the beach and being outdoors. Her favorite color was royal blue and her favorite food was Mac-n-cheese.
Shavanda was proceeded in death by her Step-father, Curtis Searcy, her maternal grandmother, Hilda Wiltz Robertson and maternal grandfather, Clarence Robertson.
Shavanda is survived by her mother, Madeline Robertson, sister, Nicole Searcy, aunts, Florence Robertson, Judy (Henry) Broussard and Claudia (Terry) Prade, uncles, Nelton Robertson, Felix (Jozell) Robertson, Raymond Robertson and Clarence Paul Robertson and a host of cousins and many friends including the Bailey family.
The Robertson family wishes to acknowledge the gratitude of our sister Judy Broussard for the love, care and acceptance and for taking Shavanda as her own child and raising her to almost an adult and also the Bailey family of Houston, Texas and California. Brettney, Brett (Papa), Dora (Nana), Uncle Tu-Tu and all who helped Shavanda thrive for almost 14 years as an adult. For her mother for accepting her daughter through all her tribulations, doctor visits and endless love. Thank you for the caregiving, love, support, encouragement, kindness and fun adventure you gave to her. The times spent with the Baileys produced smiles and confidence in Shavanda.
Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
