A Memorial Service will be held at a later date for Shena Ann Guidry, 70, who passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center.
As we gather to honor and remember a woman who meant so much to all of us - a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and truly the heart of our family.
She was the kind of person who could bring people together no matter what was going on in life. Family gatherings, festivals, cookouts, crawfish boils, music, laughter - she was always at the center of it all. If there was a good time to be had, she made sure everyone around her felt included, loved, and happy. Things will never feel quite the same without her presence, her laughter, and her spirit.
Many people knew her from her years working as a waitress at Mulate's Restaurant, where she worked hard and made lasting friendships. She was one of the hardest workers we knew. Even after waitressing, she continued cleaning houses and doing whatever she could to provide and take care of the people she loved. She was truly unstoppable.
She was also a licensed florist who had a gift for making things beautiful. She loved baking, and no one in the family ever had to worry about celebrating a birthday without a birthday cake. She found joy in doing for others, and so many of our memories are tied to the little things she lovingly did to make people feel special.
She loved going to the Crawfish Festival, listening to family members sing, spending time with friends and family, and dancing and enjoying life. Those memories will stay with us forever because they were some of the happiest moments we shared together.
Above all else, she loved her family and grandson deeply. Her daughter, Santana, meant the world to her, and she always wanted the very best for her. And her grandson, Slayer, was truly one of the greatest loves of her life. Even through struggles and hard times, she made sure he was cared for and had what he needed. Her love for him was fierce, unconditional, and constant.
One of the hardest things for us is knowing she will never get to see her home fully rebuilt after the fire. We know how much she looked forward to finally being back home and enjoying that next chapter of life. That dream mattered to her, and it hurts deeply that she will not get to see it completed.
She fought hard through illness. After battling lung cancer and going through radiation treatment, we truly believed she had overcome so much. Her strength through everything showed us just how resilient she was.
As we prepare to say goodbye, we hope she knows that the people she loved most will be cared for. Santana will be loved. Slayer will be loved, protected, and guided every step of the way. We will carry her love forward through him and through each other.
Her memory will live on in every family gathering, every festival, every song, every laugh that's a little too loud, every birthday cake, and every moment where we choose joy because that is what she brought into this world.
We love her deeply. We will miss her endlessly. And we pray she finds peace surrounded by the love of all the family waiting for her in Heaven.
Forever loved. Forever remembered.
She is survived by her daughter, Santana Taylor; grandchild, Slayer Landry; nieces, Shelly Petry and Chelsey Picard; brothers, William Guidry, Jr. and Troy Guidry; and her sisters, Linda (Earl) Huval and Marquette Guidry.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Pauline Angelle Guidry.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Prouet and Dr. Theriot, and the compassionate staff at Ochsner Lafayette General Hospital, for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity shown to Shena. Your dedication, comfort, and support will never be forgotten.
