Breaux Bridge - A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday May 7, 2025, at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge, for Shirley Ann Michel, 85, who passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Calcutta House (Hospice of Acadiana).
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Tuesday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm and will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 am until time of service.
A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
Deacon Marcel "Butch" Hebert will officiate the memorial service.
Shirley was born on October 13, 1939, in Carencro. A proud member of the Lafayette Bowling League, Shirley found joy in her weekly games, where camaraderie and laughter filled the lanes. She had a zest for travel, exploring new places and creating cherished memories along the way. Her heart swelled with happiness during lunch dates with her cousins, which were a treasured tradition. Together they forged connections over good food and shared stories, turning every meal into a moment of joy.
An accomplished cook, Shirley delighted in preparing meals that brought her family together, as she believed that food was an expression of love. Family gatherings were always bustling with her warmth and creativity, each dish prepared with meticulous care, infused with flavors and nourishment for the soul.
Shirley enjoyed intellectual challenges as well, frequently engaging in crossword puzzles, Sudoku, word searches, and games of Mahjong and Cribbage, showcasing her sharp mind and love for fun. She took great pride in her target practicing, embracing a spirit of adventure that reflected her dynamic personality.
Her career as an insurance woman was characterized by her dedication and integrity. Shirley was known not just for her professional acumen, but also for her compassion and genuine concern for her clients' well-being. She touched countless lives through her work, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Beyond her career, Shirley reveled in her roles as a devoted fan and supporter of her favorite teams. She was an avid Saints and LSU fan, fiercely cheering them on with enthusiasm that inspired everyone around her. Many will fondly remember her spirited presence during game days, where her energy and passion brought friends and family together, creating unforgettable moments of joy and camaraderie.
She is survived by her daughters, Robin Robinson (Luke Dupuis), Erin Durio (David), and Kathleen Michel; grandchildren, Shane Michel, Lindsey Durio and Sydney Durio; and her great-grandchildren, Hope Upshaw and Londyn Michel.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Michel; father, Joseph LaPorte; mother, Lydia Stelly; brothers, Abel, Cyprien and Frank LaPorte; and her sisters, Mildred Taylor, Melba Hebert and Lilly Haggard.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of St. Martin Hospital, Ochsner Lafayette General and at the Calcutta House.
