 New Iberia - Sidney J. Hebert, III, a man of many talents and passions, has bid farewell to this world on March 10th, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Born in New Iberia on May 22, 1944, to the late Sidney Joseph Hebert, II, and Lucille Lacoste Hebert, he embarked on a remarkable journey filled with diverse experiences and achievements. A graduate of St. Martinville High School and LSU, Sidney embraced his intellect and curiosity, setting the stage for a career that would see him excel in various fields. His professional endeavors took him from the intriguing world of chemistry at the Diamond Crystal Salt Mine to the realm of entrepreneurship, where he thrived as a business owner. Sidney’s adventurous spirit led him to explore the high-stakes world of professional poker, showcasing his strategic sharpness and quick wit.
 
In 1966, Sidney married his soulmate in Verna Mae Borel Hebert, his high school sweetheart. Their love story spanned over six fruitful decades, a testament to their unwavering bond and commitment to each other. Together, they shared countless memories and weathered life's joys and sorrows hand in hand.
 
Beyond his career pursuits, Sidney found joy in various hobbies and interests. An avid reader and card player, he found delight in the simple pleasures of life. His love for swimming brought him solace amidst life's currents, while his ventures to the Wholesale Auto Auctions added excitement to his days. However, above all else, Sidney treasured moments spent with his beloved family – especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren – whose presence brought immeasurable happiness to his life.
 
Sidney's departure from this world came peacefully as he passed away in the loving embrace of his dear wife, Verna Mae – a poignant conclusion to a life well-lived.
 
Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Verna Mae Borel Hebert; children, Michelle Hebert Sandridge, Cheramie Hebert Stansbury (Kenny), Sidney J. Hebert, IV., and Steven Corey Hebert; grandchildren, Ashlee Nikole Sandridge, Drake Anthony Hebert, Logan Cade Rivette, Bayleigh Stansbury Bourque (Tyler), Corey Jordin Hebert (Valerie), Sidney J. “TJ” Hebert, V, and Madison Noel Hebert; great grandchildren, Reign Mitchell Hebert, Ansleigh Mae Bourque, Corey Jordin Hebert, Jr., Caven Jance Hebert, and Sidney J. “Ty” Hebert, VI; and a sister, Renee Hebert Larkin.

 

In addition to his parents, Sidney was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alexis Nicole Sandridge, and a grandson, Coty James Hebert.
