Sophie Ann Shy

Breaux Bridge, Louisiana - A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 24, 2022, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for Sophie Ann Shy, 82, who passed away at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center.

A visitation will take place at the funeral home on Saturday from  7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

A rosary will be prayed at  9:00 AM on Saturday.

Rev. George Ajuruchi will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readings will be read by Shavonda Martin.

Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery.

Sophie enjoyed playing cards, going to garage sales, cooking, and most of all, dancing to Zydeco music. Sophie's doors were always open to anyone who needed a hot meal and a place to rest their feet. She will be remembered for her sweet personality and always having hot food ready to eat when you arrived at her  home.

She is survived by her spouse, John Shy; daughter, Tanya Shy; son, Michael Nicholas; brother, James Demouchet; sisters, Agnes Batiste and Linda (Will) Ledet; grandchildren, Tyler, Ebony, Quincy, and Jamie Shy; and her godchildren, Patty Williams, Cashin Demouchet, Travis Alexander, Carmella Demouchet, and Phillip Demouchet, Jr.

She is preceded in death by her parents,  Harrison and Mary Williams Demouchet; twins, John Milton, Jr., and Judy Shy; brothers, Walter, Wilfred, Phillip, and Lester Demouchet; sisters, Mable Demouchet, Clara Soulaire, and Theresa Demouchet; godchild, Lisa Brown; grandson, Micah Shy; maternal grandparents, Victor and Eva Williams; and her paternal grandparents, Frank Demouchet and Nolie Corbett.

Pallbearers will be Tyler C. Shy, Quincy D. Shy, Jamie T. Shy, Michael J. Nicholas, Harvey J. Noel, and Derrick D. Celestine.

Honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas I. Shy, Gavin M. Alexander, Brylan J. Shy, Austin H. Joe, James J. Demouchet, Will Ledet, and John M. Shy.
