Breaux Bridge A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in Breaux Bridge, for Stephen Guilbeau, 90, who passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:30 am until 9 pm. on Wednesday and continue on Thursday at 8 am until 9:45 am. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm on Wednesday. Fr. Ed Degeyter will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Amber Poche and Alexis Montgomery. Interment will follow at Bellvue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas. Mr. Guilbeau was a veteran of World War II, having honorably served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of 1st Sergeant during his enlistment. A graduate of Louisiana State University, he obtained his Masters degree in Horticulture and worked as an Agricultural County Agent for 30 years, serving Avoyelles and St. Martin Parishes and also worked for the Breaux Bridge Sugar Refinery and Trappeys Cannery in Lafayette. He was a parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church and served as an Usher for many years. Stephen enjoyed fishing, woodworking and gardening. He would often help his brothers with their cattle and his son-in-law, Dane Berard, in the sugarcane fields. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a friend to many, he will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Iris Soileau Guilbeau of Breaux Bridge; four sons, S. Wayne Guilbeau and his wife, Angeli, of Baton Rouge, Daniel K. Guilbeau of Pineville, A. Kent Guilbeau and wife, Christine, of Cecilia, and Matt Guilbeau and wife, Monica, of Denham Springs; two daughters, Wanda A. Guilbeau and Mary A. Berard and her husband, Dane, of Breaux Bridge; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Adelin and Anaise Rivette Guilbeau of Grand Coteau; three brothers, Harry, Howard and Wilbert Guilbeau, of St. Landry Parish; his sister, Gloria Hebert of Carencro; an infant granddaughter, Jeanne Guilbeau; infant great granddaughter, Jerzi Guilbeau; and his nephew, Paul Guilbeau of Opelousas. Pallbearers will be Stephen W. Guilbeau, Jr., Daniel Guilbeau, Dustin Guilbeau, Seth Guilbeau, Allen Guilbeau, and Michael Hebert.
