Breaux Bridge A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m., on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Steven Guidry, 86, who passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2013.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday, and continue on Saturday at 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Fr. Allen Breaux will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Manda B. Choate and Karly Guidry. Gift Bearers will be Kay Helms, Krystal Guidry, and Kelli Guidry.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 1 in Breaux Bridge.
As a Private First Class in the United States Army, Steve was attached to Battery A 356th AAA Search Light Battalion, earning the following decorations: Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Victory Ribbon-Overseas Service, Army of Occupations-Japan, and Expert Infantry Badge. A World War II veteran, he was honorably discharged in 1948.
Steve retired in 1990 after a 41-year career on the river, piloting such motor vessels as the Davy Crockett, the Patrick Calhoun, Jr., and the Joey Chotin. Spending much of his retirement years cutting his grass, Steve maintained a meticulous yard that included pecan trees, a variety of roses, and vegetable gardens.
A member of Lake Berard Hunting Club, Steve was an avid outdoorsman. In his later years, he enjoyed spending his holidays at Lake Fausse Point with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Theresa Baudin Guidry of Breaux Bridge; two sons, Michael (Deany) Guidry of Lafayette and Neil (Athena) Guidry of Breaux Bridge; two daughters, Janice (Charles) Broussard of Jeanerette and Deborah Broussard of Breaux Bridge; his brother, Sidney Guidry of Baytown, TX; two sisters, Norma (Lee) Frederick and Anna Lee (Pat) Miller, all of Breaux Bridge; seven grandchildren, Ron (Ressie) Broussard, Kay (Chad) Helms, Manda (Jeremy) Choate, Ryan (Nancy) Guidry, Krystal Guidry, Karly Guidry, and Kelli Guidry; and seven great grandchildren, Beau Broussard, Roni Broussard, Reid Helms, Matthew Choate, Nicholas Choate, Atticus Guidry, and Carson Calais.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude R. and Eliza Guidry; and his sister-in-law, Sybil Guidry.
Pallbearers will be Ron Broussard, Beau Broussard, Ryan Guidry, Joey Guidry, Gill Frederick, Bryan Miller, and Mark Miller.
