He is preceded in death by his father, John Hayes; his mother, Mary Mable Stelly Hayes; and his brother, Allen James Hayes. The sun does not shine as bright today at the passing of an amazing person. Steven John Hayes was a gentle man with a gentle soul. He thought nothing of putting himself last for the sake of others. His love of God, his wife Mary, son Jeremy, daughter in law, Kristi, and especially his precious grandchildren, was apparent in his everyday life. He found such joy and comfort in mentoring his grandchildren, Tori and Tristen, by encouraging, teaching and coaching their many hobbies and activities. It would not be uncommon to see the 3 of them building a birdhouse or target practicing in the backyard. Nothing made him happier or more proud than to have his beloved son, Jeremy by his side. His new daughter-in-law, Kristi, quickly became his "daughter" and loved her dearly, as well as his sister-in-law, Mercy Fruge. He was so very fortunate to have recently celebrated the 39th anniversary of his marriage to his best friend and soul-mate, his loving wife, Mary. Steve took great pride in his Cajun heritage showcasing it through his involvement as a member of the Cajun Friends Dance Troupe and The Lee Benoit Cajun Dancers, speaking fluent Cajun French, and enjoyed picking a tune on his fiddle every now and then. He was a member of the supper club which was referred to as The Gang. Steve and his wife, Mary danced in many parts of the country and they were recognized as a couple that danced with harmony and perfection that expressed their love for Cajun Dancing. Steve was also gifted with the talent of painting and drawing, which he loved to do in his free time. He was a parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church and a Crusillo member. Steve loved his country and was a proud veteran of the United States Army, and a member of the American Legion Post 133. Pallbearers will be Mary Hayes, Jeremy Hayes, Calvin Cal Courville, Bradley Lee Benoit, Ed Courville, Aby Lavergne, and Tristen Hayes. Honorary Pallbearers will be Weatherford Employees, Cajun Friends Dance Troupe, Bob Kirchoffer, and Donald Abshire. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
