A lifelong resident of New Iberia, Thelma Broussard was born on April 26, 1938, to the late Ignac and Esther David Armentor. Thelma’s career began in agriculture, where her first job involved weighing sugarcane at the sugar mill. She then ventured into various roles, including a brief stint at Louisiana Water Company (LAWCO), before finding her calling in the banking industry. Thelma’s adeptness in bookkeeping and inventory management led her to National Oilwell. She eventually returned to banking, where she spent many fulfilling years before retiring from Regions Bank.
Traveling alongside her husband, Robert, Thelma expanded her horizons and deepened her appreciation for the world around her. Their journeys took them across the globe, creating memories that she would treasure forever. Thelma was also known for her energetic spirit; she loved to dance and had an eye for the perfect sale, often taking spontaneous shopping trips.
Thelma's heart belonged to her faith and her family. A longtime member of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, she found solace and belonging in her spiritual community, nurturing her faith and connecting with others who shared her values. Her love of family was paramount; Thelma cherished the moments spent together, particularly during lively cookouts and family gatherings that brought joy and laughter to all. She will be deeply missed.
Mrs. Broussard is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Robert J. Broussard; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Lawrence “Larry” Andrus; son and daughter-in-law, Bart and Beth Broussard; grandchildren, Brandon Andrus (Sara), Sarah Broussard, Spencer Broussard, and Noah Broussard; and two great-granddaughters, Bailey and Madelyn Andrus.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandmother who helped raise her, Eliza W. David; and her uncle/godfather who was like a father to her, Leodise David.
Thelma's legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. May she rest in peace.
