It is difficult to sum up a man’s life in a few paragraphs or even a phrase. A well-lived life is chalk-full of moments that blend and if lived fully, these moments create a beautiful masterpiece. For Troy Melancon, his masterpiece and legacy will live on with his wife, daughter, son-in-law, grandson, and the family, friends, and coworkers who he leaves behind.

Troy was born on July 4, 1965, and like the fireworks that are lit in celebration on the Fourth of July, Troy took this life and spread his light far and wide. After talking with his wife and daughter, it is clear that he lived his life to the fullest and embodied the phrase, “Joie de vivre.”

Born in Breaux Bridge, he was one of eight children, adored his mother, and rumor has it that his mother has stated that he was her favorite.

He married the love of his life and beautiful bride, Susan, in 1991 and soon after, they had their daughter, Renee. While many find value in quantity, Troy focused his energy on quality. He didn’t just want any food, he wanted good food. He filled his house with good music. He loved to engage in one-on-one quality time and good conversation. He lived to chase a little thrill in life and was a lover of motorcycles, hunting, traveling, attending concerts, and casinos with his wife. As his daughter grew up, she says that he was always there, following her to any dance competition or performance, a grin permanently across his face. Proud of his daughter and this life that he and his wife had created. Joie de vivre.

Both Susan and Renee say that he spent his life trying to make sure that his family was taken care of. While many struggle with finding joy in work, it is evident that he led with his heart and did so with dedication year after year. He was a hard worker and as his employer, Benjamin Frith, Vice President of Engineering at Gordon Technologies states, “It was evident to anyone who met him that he cared deeply about the quality of his work…Troy was more than just a good coworker or employee. He was a good man.” Joie de vivre.

While he loved his wife and family, the true apple of his eye came when he earned the title of “Grandpa” to their rainbow baby. There were not nearly enough years spent with Austin, but memories of pacqueing at Easter time, playing baseball, and hearing Austin say “Grandpa” for the first time will now become some of the most special moments and Troy will live on in his grandson. Joie de vivre.

Troy may have been a thrill seeker, a family man, a hard worker, quiet and devoted, and a true fighter, which was seen as he fought with health issues these past few years, he was also a man with great faith. He loved sitting on his back porch, reflecting, and looking at the sunset. As Troy’s sun sets, he will continue to live on and shine brightly like the stars at night. May his soul rest in peace and may those left behind find comfort in the light that he shared with the world.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Guidroz Melancon; daughter, Reneé Doré (Jeremy); grandchild, Austin Doré; mother, Thelma Melancon; siblings, Michael Melancon (Gail), Chris Melancon (Faye), Francis "Franny" Melancon (Sandra), Mark Melancon, Todd Melancon (Melissa), and Sally Comb (Danny); and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Earl "Pete" Melancon; and brother, Kim John Melancon.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Doré, Mark Melancon, Todd Melancon, Franny Melancon, Mike Melancon, and Chris Melancon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Melancon, Kasey Melancon, Kelly Melancon, and Dillon Comb.
