Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Velma B. Reed, 85, who passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021.The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge from 8:00 am until 11:30 am on Wednesday.Rev. Garrett McIntyre will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 400-999 Roberts Ave.(Hwy La 97-Evangeline Hwy), Jennings, La, 70546. Velma was born August 14, 1935 in Mamou to the late Orelix and Etis Richard Bertrand. She was resident of Eunice and Jennings for many years. She was a devout Catholic and strong in her faith. For the last six years, Velma was a parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux and was a former parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings. On a weekly basis, she and her friends would drink coffee and pray the rosary when she lived there. Velma loved having her family over and enjoyed cooking and baking for them. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughters, Mona Mayeux (George) and Roxie Smith (David); son, Ricky Anthony Reed (Sherry); sisters, Eula Fontenot, Glenda Manuel (Norman) and Delores Stagg (Lamar); grandchildren, Shane Monson (Lovely), Brad Monson (Kristie), Marc Reed, Davin Smith (Kim), Jordan Smith (Jamie), Candace Reed, and Jonathan Smith (Lauren Thibodeaux); great-grandchildren, Brennen Monson (Victoria), Johnny Monson (Brooke), Kody Monson, Alexia Monson, Jadyn Smith, Jaycen Carlone and Lan Smith.She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald A. Reed; parents; son, Mark Gerald Reed; sister, Joyce Solari; great-grandchild, Tyler Monson. Pallbearers will be Davin Smith, Jordan Smith, Jonathan Smith, Brennen Monson, Kody Monson and Brad Monson.Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
