Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at St. Bernard Catholic Church honoring the life of Verna Mae Dupuis McGee Barras, 79, who passed away peacefully in her daughter's arms on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
The family requests visiting hours be observed on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm. It will continue on Thursday from 8:00 am until 10:00 am.
A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening.
Father Michael Richard will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Alacia McGee and Tylie Johnson. Gift bearers will be Traegan Meche, Ella Tauzin, Layla McGee, Ryan Dauphinet and Jace Boney.
Burial will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Henderson.
Verna Mae Dupuis McGee Barras, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, was born December 28, 1945, in Arnaudville. Verna lived a life celebrated for its kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family.
Verna's journey was marked by her selfless spirit. A devoted caregiver by nature, she dedicated herself to ensuring that those around her felt cherished and cared for. Her love was boundless; she often went without in order to provide for her children, working tirelessly, sometimes at multiple jobs, to secure a better life for them.
Known for her meticulous care of her yard, Verna took pride in her home, ensuring that it was a welcoming haven for family gatherings. She was the rock of her family, the one who brought everyone together, creating a safe space filled with laughter and love. Her love extended beyond her immediate family, as she was a faithful supporter of charities dedicated to helping children, embodying her belief in giving to those in need.
In her leisure time, Verna found joy in dancing, playing bingo, and connecting with loved ones through Facebook. Her vibrant spirit and infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Shely Batiste (Stephen), Shane McGee (Rhonda) and Temesha Johnson (Shaun); daughter-in-law, Tammy McGee; step-children, Kimbal Barras (Jamie), Ricky Barras, Corey Barras (Terry) and Marcy Blanchard (Corey); sisters, Judy Lasseigne and Sonia Theriot; grandchildren, Tamekia McGee, Brook McGee, Nekisha McGee, Jill McGee, Rocky McGee, Jr., Coby Dauphinet (Layna), Chance Dauphinet (Gabbi), Jeremy Bergeron, Alacia McGee, Joshua McGee (Adrian), Tonya Arnaud (Chris), Gavin McGee (Sydney), Kyler Johnson (Bailee), Skyler Johnson (Tristin) and Tylie Johnson; step-grandchildren, Blake Barras (Jennifer), Chase Barras (Jade), Lance Barras, Callie Stojak (Anto), Quentin Carmello, Tyler Carmello, Garrett Knott and Harley Knott; 35 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; 4 great-great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and nephew, Cory Theriot.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Dupuis and Hazel Noel Dupuis; husbands, Allen J. McGee and Nootsie J. Barras; sons, Rocky James McGee and Keith McGee; daughter, Sheila McGee; grandson, Christopher Dauphinet; and step-grandchild, Blaire Barras.
Pallbearers will be Coby Dauphinet, Joshua McGee, Kyler Johnson, Skyler Johnson, Gavin McGee, Chance Dauphinet and Jeremy Bergeron.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Shane McGee, Shaun Johnson, Stephen Batiste, Rocky McGee, Jr. and Cory Theriot.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Hope Hospice for their care and compassion.
