A lifelong resident of New Iberia, Vernick Joseph Delahoussaye was born in Delcambre, Louisiana on July 9, 1931 to the late Olite Gary Delahoussaye Touchet and Igles Kellogg Delahoussaye. He worked in the oilfield most of his life, first as a Roughneck, then retired as a truck driver. He was married to his loving wife, Vernice for 64 years, and he took care of her until her last breath in 2016. He never left her side; now they are together again. He and Vernice loved to fish; they had a camp for many years, and enjoyed having get-togethers there. Their door was always open, and they never met a stranger. They also loved to travel when they were able, and their passion was spending time with their grandchildren. Vernick also enjoyed vegetable gardening, cutting grass, and working on lawn mowers. He always lent a hand to those in need. He loved to talk and share stories with anyone who would listen. He had a tremendous sense of humor that enamored everyone, and he will be missed dearly.
Vernick is survived by daughters, Darlene Delahoussaye and Gail Delahoussaye; sons, Kenneth Delahoussaye and Keith Delahoussaye and wife Jeanne; all of New Iberia; brother, Arthur Touchet, Jr.; grandchildren, Genee Romero and husband Rene, Monique Derouen and husband Nick, Britni LeBlanc and husband Shane, Tori Delahoussaye, Jobe Delahoussaye, Jared Delahoussaye, and Jake Delahoussaye; and great-grandchildren, Baylee Romero, Aubree Derouen, and Bianca, Emery, and Logan LeBlanc.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vernice M. Delahoussaye, stepfather who raised him, Arthur Touchet, Sr., son, Kurt Delahoussaye, and brothers, J.C. and Lester Delahoussaye.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all of his doctors and nurses, and the staff of Heart of Hospice for such wonderful care. You will not be forgotten.
