Parks A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parks, for Wesley Barras, 81, who passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at St. Martin Hospital.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 3:30 pm until 10:00 pm on Friday, and continue on Saturday at 7:00 am until 10:15 am. A rosary will be prayed by Fr. Michael DeBlanc at 7:00 pm on Friday.
Rev. Donovan Labbe will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Christi Lasseigne, Sharon Delahoussaye, and Brenda Breaux Broussard. Gift Bearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Music will be provided by Denise Angelle and Pat Melancon. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Mr. Barras honorably served his country in the United States Army. He worked as a medic for St. Martin Parish prior to Acadian Ambulance providing ambulatory service to the parish.
He is survived by two sons, Eddie John Barras and wife, Debbie, of Cecilia, and Kevin Barras and wife, Loretta, of Parks; three daughters, Jenise Lasseigne and husband, Chris, of Cecilia, Stephanie Barras of Parks, and Judy Delahoussaye and husband, Kenneth, of St. Martinville; his brother, Melvin Barras and wife, Betty; his sister, Shirley Dupuis and husband, Pierre Pete 12 grandchildren, Raquel Delahoussaye, Sharon Delahoussaye, Eddie Elie Barras, Jonathan Barras, Christopher Barras, Jeremy Barras, Rene Barras, Aaron Barras, Austin Barras, John Barras Lasseigne, Christi Lasseigne, and Destiny Patin Soto; and 9 great grandchildren, Weston Boudreaux, Rachel Orson, Sebastian Bash Knott, Mason Barras, Owen Barras, Shianne Boudreaux, Aubrey Barras, Lance Wright, and Derik Soto.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Castille Barras; his parents, Eddie and Judith Belaire Barras; his brother, Dorsey Barras and wife, Joyce; his sister, Diane Perkins and husband, Tally; maternal grandparents, Pete Pit and Angelina Belaire; and paternal grandparents, Ernest and Bertha Barras.
Pallbearers will be John Barras Lasseigne, Aaron and Austin Barras, Jonathan Barras, Aaron Niki Knott, David Soto, and Kevin Barras.
Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Barras, Jeremy Barras, Eddie Barras, Donald Boudreaux, Jesse Cazares, Chris Lasseigne, Kenneth Delahoussaye, Rodney Miller, and Luke Dupuis.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Debra Durham and St. Agnes Nursing Home and their staffs, for all of the wonderful care and attention given to Wesley during his time of need.
