Breaux Bridge A Celebration of Life for Wilbert P. Ted Resweber, 94, will be held on Saturday, March 8, at 1:00 p.m. at Teche Baptist Church in Breaux Bridge. Mr. Resweber went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ on March 2nd at St. Martin Hospital.
Rev. Joe Jenkins, Pastor of Teche Baptist, will conduct the service. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 7th from 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Teche Baptist Church, 3634 Grand Point Highway, Breaux Bridge, LA 70517, and will resume on Saturday from 9:30 am until service time.
A native of Port Barre, Louisiana, he was born on November 22, 1919 the youngest child of the late Albert P. Resweber, Sr. and Louise Reynolds Resweber. In the late 1930s he was the pitcher for the Port Barre Oilers, a semi-pro baseball team. He graduated from Port Barre High School in 1938. He served his country in the United States Air Corp during World War II from 1941 1945. He often shared memories of his experiences and his war stories of the campaigns in which he served in Algeria French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Naples, and the Air Offensive Europe.
After his discharge he began a career in the oilfield industry which took him to jobs in east Texas and north Louisiana. During this time he met the love of his life, Betty Jean Johnson. They were married on July 17, 1948. For the next 50 years Ted and Betty lived and worked in northwest Louisiana. They made their home on Caddo Lake in Oil City, Louisiana, where they were active in First Baptist Church. In the 1960s he served as a Councilman for the town of Oil City. In 1980 he retired from Cities Service Oil Company with 30 years of service. The next fifteen years he and Betty enjoyed touring the United States and Canada in their motor home.
In 1998, Ted and Betty relocated to Breaux Bridge to be near family. Their years in Breaux Bridge were spent enjoying time with family and forming strong bonds with great and great-great nieces and nephews. They both Bloomed where they were planted. During their years in Breaux Bridge they made many friends and were active members of Teche Baptist Church. He was instrumental in purchasing the property for the church site and was active in the first phase of the building program.
He was loved and will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of 65 years, Betty Resweber. His niece, Edith Resweber Matte and her husband, Clarence, of Breaux Bridge; his nephew, Paul Resweber and his wife, Dell, of Baton Rouge; five loving great nieces and their spouses, Mary Beth and Rollie Cantu, Janet and Gantt Nicholson, Becky and Chris Burney, Carol and Mark Warfield, all of Breaux Bridge, and Debby and Pat Cazes of Port Allen; one great nephew, Chris Resweber and his wife, Elizabeth, of Ohio; twelve caring great-great nieces and nephews, Justin Cantu, Cassie Gillespie, Kelli Cantu, Brooke Gillespie, Joshua Warfield, Millie Nicholson, Emilie Warfield, Courtney Marshall Johnson, Jeff Marshall, Casey Marshall, Corey Resweber, and Meghan Resweber.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sons and one infant daughter, and his siblings, Coleman Resweber and Leonie R. Vedros.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Rollie Cantu, Gantt Nicholson, Mark Warfield, Chris Burney, Justin Cantu, and Joshua Warfield.
Honorary pallbearers are Paul Resweber, Clarence Matte, Jr., Chris Resweber, Julius Courville, and Roland Louviere.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Teche Baptist Church, P. O. Box 1416, Breaux Bridge, LA 70517, and designate Debt Retirement or to UL Up till Dawn for St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 109 John Breaux Dr., Breaux Bridge, LA 70517.
