Coteau – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, for Yvonne LaSalle Nelson, 93, who passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.

Rev. Matthew Hebert will be the Celebrant.

Visitation will be at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia on Tuesday from 9:30 am until 1:15 pm.

A rosary will be prayed at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia at 11:00 am on Tuesday.

A native of New Iberia, Yvonne LaSalle Nelson was born on January 6, 1933, to the late Louis and Louise Abbatte LaSalle. She was a devout catholic, faithful in prayer, and was the wife of a sugarcane farmer. A wonderful homemaker, Mrs. Nelson was an excellent cook, a talented seamstress, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles in her spare time.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by her children, Brenda Boutte (Dalton), Hillary Nelson, Joanne Rougeaux, Elouise Nelson, Christopher Nelson, and Jeffery Nelson (Carrie); sisters, Florine Romero and Ezola Fonteno; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Nelson; son, Arnold Nelson; and siblings, Roland LaSalle (Virginia), Dorothy Oliver (Robert), and Raymond Nelson.

Pallbearers are Peter Nelson, Donald Nelson, Stephon Elam, Jeffery Nelson, Dalton Boutte, and Collin Linscomb.

Honorary pallbearer is Joseph G. Espree.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Dr. George Cousin and Dr. Fitzgerald Sigue for extraordinary care.
