Zonna Marie Batiste, born on February 21, 1962, in St. Martinville, Louisiana to the late Dalton and Theresa Ledet Batiste, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Zonna was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She leaves behind two cherished daughters, Danielle Batiste of St. Martinville and Brittney Batiste of Broussard, LA; five siblings, Alton (Theresa) Batiste of Beaumont, TX, Cynthia Celestine of Beaumont, TX, Zenna Batiste, Darlton Mae (Early) Doucet, and Evette (Gabriel) Narcisse of St. Martinville, LA; five grandchildren, Da'Tayvious, Akeem Jr., Dereon, Milo, and Dreux; one great-grandchild, Khyree; and her godson, Desmond Celestine. She will also be remembered dearly by her five aunts, Charlene Batiste, Mary Alice Batiste, Thelma Batiste, Hilda Batiste, and Betty Thibodeaux; and four uncles, Allen (Genevieve) Batiste, Felton (Pauline) Batiste, Steven (Menda) Batiste, and Robert (Barolyn) Batiste, along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Dalton and Theresa Batiste; her brother, Delton Batiste; her uncles, Jeffery Mitchell, Harry Batiste, Albert Batiste, and Junius Ledet; and her aunts, Dorothy Micheal Batiste, Eula Batiste, and Edna Ledet.
Zonna will be remembered for her sweet spirit and her even sweeter confections-especially her famous fire pecan candies, popcorn balls, fudge, and candy apples. She was the "go-to cousin" whenever anyone craved sweets. In her spare time, she enjoyed trips to the casino and treasured every moment with her family. She was lovingly known as the "aunt who was really the grandma" to her nieces' children, and her playful, sometimes "messy" humor brought joy (and worked many nerves) to those who knew her best.
Zonna's life was filled with love, laughter, and family. She will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
