New Iberia - Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in New Iberia, for Zula Mae Derouen Christian, 81, who passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, and continue at 8:00 am until 1:30 pm on Wednesday, at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd., New Iberia, LA 70560.
Pastor Bobby Newsome will officiate at the funeral service. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia.
Mrs. Christian was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. In her earlier years, Zula enjoyed working in her yard and looked forward to pampering herself by getting her hair and nails done. An avid fan of the New Orleans Saints, she loved watching them play football and she also enjoyed watching her favorite soap operas.
Zulas love for her children, grandchildren, as well as her great grandchildren, was unconditional she loved spending time with them on any given occasion.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Helen Christian and Sarah Jane (Johnny) Jackson, all of New Iberia, and Dawn Marie (Kevin) Lewis of Petal, MS; two sons, Raymond Allen Christian of Grandbury, TX and Floyd Allen (Regina) Christian of New Iberia; her sister, Mae Leonard of Lyonsville, PA; four brothers, Galdwin "Neg" Derouen of Jeanerette, Allen Morvant and Nerry (Cindy) Bourque, all of California, and Terry (Gloria) Bourque of New Iberia; her beloved niece, Debbie (Charles) Lacy of New Iberia; 10 grandchildren, April, Jordyn, Whitney, Laura, Christopher, Daniel, Amy, Heidi, Marqus, and Chase; 7 great grandchildren, Zoe, Alexia, Jentci, Marqus, Jr., Lila, Maddox, and Alexia; and her devoted caretaker, Mercede (Ivory) Francois of Jeanerette.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Allen Christian; and her parents, John and Edwina Bourque Derouen.
Pallbearers will be Marqus Allen Christian, Terry Bourque, Josh Perkins, Johnny Jackson, Galdwin Neg Derouen, and Kevin Lewis.
Honorary pallbearer will be Leo Bradburn.
Her family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Carl Ditch and Heart of Hospice, and their staffs, for the wonderful care given to her during her time of need.
